New eating disorder screening guidelines will ‘shine a light’: experts

The Canadian Paediatric Society is urging primary-care providers to screen all adolescent patients for eating disorders during routine checkups and other medical visits.
The society released new guidelines in a position statement Thursday to help pediatricians, family doctors and nurse practitioners diagnose cases of eating disorders, which have increased since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Silver Linings Foundation, a local organization with the goal of providing world-class residential eating disorder treatment to Calgary, has seen the effect of the pandemic and made adjustments.

A communal yoga class was held at Calgary’s Southcentre Mall on Sunday to raise awareness and support for people struggling with eating disorders.
The event was put on in partnership with Calgary charity Silver Linings Foundation in support of National Eating Disorder Awareness Week, which runs from Feb. 1 to 7.
